How to Upcycle...

Upcycled Stamper

Each month Upcycle Micheal shows you how to upcycle some old materials into something super cool!

What you need this month...

Make art from your favourite nature finds! Try weaving in whatever you find each season. Why not make a photo diary of your looms?

2 long pieces of string or wool, around 1m each
4 lengths of string of wool, around 30cm each
Scissors and 4 twigs or sticks
Fallen leaves, petals, or other natural finds

The Upcycle...

Step 1

Make a frame by arranging your twigs so that the ends overlap. Use some of your string or wool to tie them in place. Try to avoid any splinters!

Step 2

Take a long piece of string and tie one end to your frame close to one of the corners on the top of your frame.

Step 3

Wrap it around the frame from top to bottom several times.
Once you’ve covered the loom, tie it firmly near the opposite corner.

Step 4

Tie another long piece of string near a corner on one of the sides, and start wrapping the string from side to side. Weave it under and over the string that’s already on your loom, then use the opposite pattern on the way back.

Step 5

Keep going until you’ve filled the entire frame. When it’s finished, tie it firmly.

Step 6

Slide your nature finds into the loom, letting the criss-crossing lengths of string hold them in place. Make a design, or just have fun displaying your collection.
